Bereavement Support Group

The South Tipperary Hospice Bereavement Support Group provides a welcoming, safe, and confidential environment for people to meet and provide support for one another as they cope with a bereavement. The group meets every second Tuesday at the South Tipperary Hospice office at The Quay, Clonmel from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

Counselling Service

One-to-one counselling is available for people suffering grief through the bereavement of a loved one. The counselling service is also available for those with a life-limiting health condition and their family members. Professional counsellors provide emotional, social, and spiritual support in a discreet environment.

Children's Grief Support

We provide support for children attending primary and post-primary schools to help them understand and cope with their emotions after the loss of a loved one. They are offered expert one-to-one support, assured that they are not alone, and advised on how to cope with such distress in their lives.

Healthcare Assistants

South Tipperary Hospice will support people with life-limiting health conditions and their families by organising healthcare assistants to provide a service in the home. They will provide essential support in a practical and professional manner. This service is offered through referral from HSE clinical teams and GPs, based on the needs of the family.

Volunteer Driving Scheme

South Tipperary Hospice is fortunate to have so many people giving up their time to volunteer to drive people with life-limiting health conditions to hospital appointments at various locations around the country. This invaluable service is provided by a group of friendly and understanding volunteers. The service is available to people who are unable to use public transport and may not have family members available to bring them to appointments.

Holistic Therapies

People can avail of holistic therapies to help them deal with pain, anxiety, nausea, and breathing difficulties. Free reflexology, massage, acupuncture, and Reiki therapies are available as part of a holistic care approach. These therapies are provided at the home of the person with a life-limiting health condition by a team of professional therapists.

Music Therapy

This service can bring real comfort and joy to the lives of people with a life-limiting health condition and their families. A professional music therapist will create a connection to enable people to feel good about themselves, stay positive, and take a look back on milestone events in their lives through songs or pieces of music that may have a special meaning for them.

Jackie Fehilly
Counsellor and Psychotherapist

As an Art Psychotherapist (MA), I am running the new Child & Adolescent Grief Support Service at South Tipperary Hospice. I have over 10 years experience working in schools and community mental health, supporting children, adolescents, adults & families through bereavement & loss, trauma, & emotional difficulties. My work focuses on providing a safe & creative therapeutic space where young people can use creative art alongside gentle conversation to explore & express their feelings.

Grief can be particularly challenging for children & teenagers, who often struggle to find the words to describe what they are feeling. Art Psychotherapy allows them to communicate & process emotions in a natural, non-verbal way, helping them to make sense of loss, build resilience, & develop healthy coping skills.

This new service is an important addition to the Hospice’s bereavement support program, which also offers counselling for adults. It provides a much needed, age-appropriate, compassionate care for young people in our community who are navigating grief.  Referrals & enquiries are welcome from parents, schools, & healthcare professionals.

Martina Doverman
Counsellor and Psychotherapist

My name is Martina and I am a qualified psychotherapist offering bereavement counselling to those navigating their unique experience of grief following the loss of a loved one or anticipating loss.

I provide a safe and gentle space to explore and express your personal and perhaps complicated experience of grief. As a person-centred therapist, I integrate the skills and tools necessary to meet you where you are at and support you to discover your own inner resilience at this difficult time.

Following many years working as a nurse and specialising in palliative care, I now feel privileged to be available should you seek support journeying through your grieving process.

“Give sorrow words. The grief that does not speak whispers the o’er fraught heart & bids it break.”

~ Shakespeare from Macbeth

Ellen Moloney
Student Psychotherapist

I am a fourth year student therapist, currently completing my second year of work placement with South Tipperary Hospice. My approach is person-centred and grounded in creating a safe, supportive and non judgemental space where people feel heard and accepted.

My decades of experience supporting people with additional needs and my personal experience of bereavement and life-limiting illness have given me a deep understanding of vulnerability, loss and the importance of being met with genuine compassion.

I believe these experiences bring authenticity and empathy to my work, helping me meet each person as an individual with openness, warmth and respect.

Mark Whelan
"Your Story Recorded"

With his background in media and audio production spanning over 30 years Mark is well accomplished in the art of interviewing and listening to people's stories, he also presented The Clonmel Podcast for 4 years and is currently at the helm of Timeless Tales and Business Pod as well as presenting a morning show five days a week on local radio.

Your Story Recorded is the perfect way to preserve those precious memories, having your family history lasting forever for future generations,  and what better way than having the person tell the story themselves.

Mark will come along and interview them in the comfort of their own home using tiny wireless microphones attached to their lapel, so they will feel calm and relaxed, they will hardly know they are being recorded, in fact it's more like having a chat, asking about the early days, growing up, family history, etc. Family members can also pass on questions to be asked.

When the interview is complete, Mark takes it away to be edited, if needed, where the recording is then saved onto a small Flash Drive and handed to the family member in a lovely presentation box.
